http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 urges Liverpool to return to winning ways ahead of the new season
Jamie Carragher, the 33-year-old Liverpool defender, revealed he wanted to see the Reds improve under manager Kenny Dalglish.
The last time Liverpool won a trophy was the FA Cup in 2006, and the last time the Reds were crowned league winners was 21 years ago in 1990.
While Carragher felt the records his side currently held were important, they did not mean too much if Liverpool failed to present a challenge for the title.
Liverpool finished sixth on the English Premier League table last season, failing to qualify for not only the UEFA Champions League but also the Europa League.
Failure to qualify for either of the two European competitions is definitely one of the biggest disappointments in Liverpool’s history.
Especially considering the fact they spent £79.8 million during the January transfer window to bring in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to strengthen their squad.
Carragher said while speaking to reporters:
“You want to be in there, and Liverpool should be in there challenging for trophies.
It's been a few years now since we won a trophy and that's what we want to try and change this season coming, but I'm sure everyone's got the same idea.”
Carragher urged his side to improve their form and work towards winning silverware in the upcoming season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender continued:
“If Manchester United win, they win and you say http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444 and you have to respect what they've achieved.
We can't keep these records - we've five Champions League titles - if we're not competing for them.
We have to try and win more as it's been too long for Liverpool and it's something we're looking to change.”
Winning the Premier League title last season, Manchester United went on to claim their 19th league title – successfully beating Liverpool’s record.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international insisted he was certain his side could once again regain their dominance in English football.
Carragher began his career with the Reds in 1996 and since then has made 668 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.
The Liverpool vice-captain is one of the longest serving players for the club and currently holds the record for the most appearances in Europe for Liverpool.
