Jamie Carragher welcomes the return of Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard – EPL News
Liverpool defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196, and has insisted that the Englishman’s return will inspire the squad to victory after back-to-back Premier League defeats.
Gerrard played for the first time this season in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over npower Championship side, Brighton and Hove Albion, in third round of the League Cup.
The Liverpool captain was out of action since March 2011 after undergoing surgery for his groin injury. The Englishman was expected to return in August. However, the 31-year-old suffered another setback before the start of the current campaign, which ruled him out for a further eight weeks.
Gerrard was expected to play against Tottenham Hotspur but he wasn’t named in 15-man squad after failing to pass the fitness tests.
The skipper made it to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brighton-c38685 and Hove Albion and was introduced in 75th minute, when the Reds were leading the tie with one goal.
Carragher has asserted that Gerrard’s return will provide Liverpool with a much needed boost and will help the squad return to form following a poor run of form. The Reds slumped to their first defeat of the ongoing Premier League against Stoke City, which was followed by a humiliating 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
"His presence will give everyone a lift. It's disappointing, of course, that he has missed the start of the new season, but what a player we now have to come back to help.” Carragher said.
Carragher has also revealed that Gerrard was desperate to lead Liverpool, and the defender is confident that the skipper will be able to give his best and inspire the team.
"I speak to him on a daily basis, so I know how much he has wanted to get back. That is what makes him the player he is. He is just so desperate to be part of the new scene." He concluded.
Liverpool are now through to fourth round of the Carlin Cup, where they are expected to face one of the Premier League giants.
