Jamie Cope handed Neil Robertson clash in 2012 China Open snooker tournament
England’s Jamie Cope will be up against the former World Snooker Champion, the classy Neil Robertson from Australia in the first round of 2012 China Open snooker tournament at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium. World Number 23, Cope has played Robertson
a couple of times before and holds a convincing track record against the Aussie potter.
The Englishman set up Neil Robertson clash in the first round after he stormed into the initial round ousting Scotland’s Alan McManus by a close score line of 5-4 in the qualifying session of the tournament which was held at the World Snooker Academy in
Sheffield between February 21 and 24.
The first round clash between Cope and Robertson will be a close game as the pair, after facing each other three times in their career, knows the strengths and weaknesses of each other. Despite the fact that Robertson was able to win two of the matches against
Cope, he needs to be alert because Jamie is in a good shape and can challenge him pretty well in the match.
The 26-year-old Englishman has performed convincingly in the 2011-12 Snooker Season and has impressed his fans quite a few times during the season. The Englishman is aiming to hit the top 16 spot after he finishes his run in the 2012 China Open. Winning
over the former champ in the initial round will give him a golden chance to improve his ranking and even hit a major title in his career.
The Longton cueman was unable to clinch any major or minor ranking snooker title throughout his career but he did make his way into the ultimate matches of 2006 Grand Prix event where he was defeated at the hands of his current opponent in the opening round
of China Open, Neil Robertson. This time, Cope has his chances to pay back the Aussie with a classy knock.
Second time he was up against the former World Champion, Scotland’s Graeme Dott in the final of 2007 China Open where he was beaten by 5-9. However, the Englishman is not disheartened by his past performance and is eyeing to make a superb comeback now that
he has got a chance.
