Jamie Donaldson aims to earn a full-time PGA Tour card for 2013 golf season
Jamie Donaldson plans to shift his focus from the European Tour to the PGA Tour for the upcoming 2013 golf season. He made his decision of spending more time on the US circuit following his first top-10 finish at the PGA Championship last week.
Donaldson tied for the seventh position at the Kiawah Island Country Club and earned a spot in this week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. This will be his fourth season start on the PGA Tour.
Earlier, he also participated in The Open Championship and the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational.
While talking to the media on Tuesday, he told that his compatriots from England, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose, are the ones who gave him the idea of making a move on the US soil.
"They've been over here for a while ... and they just rave on about it all the time, saying it's just great over here; the lifestyle is fantastic; the golf is fantastic," he said. "They've got a lot of positive things to say about America, the tour, the
country. I love it over here”.
The winner of last month’s Irish Open said that he will participate in the qualifying school at the end of this year in order to earn a full-time status for the 2013 PGA Tour.
"I'd love to (play full-time on the U.S. PGA Tour)," Donaldson said. "I'll probably go to the (tour) school at the end of the year”.
However, he also admitted that the plans can change at any time of the year due to unexpected circumstances.
"We'll see how we go, see what happens before then. There are lots of different things that might happen to make me go or make me not go, so we'll wait and see. But that's the plan, yeah," he said.
In addition to that, he also depends on his family’s decision because his wife gave birth to his son Max earlier this year. Therefore, he will have to take different things in consideration before making a final choice.
Currently, he is only focusing on the competition scheduled to start on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the Sedgefield Country Club.
