Jamie Donaldson ready for the Royal Lytham challenge
Jamie Donaldson, who won the European Tour’s Irish Open three weeks ago, is now confident to make his winning debut in the major golf championships, when he will tee off at the British Open, slated to start from July 19, 2012.
While talking to the media on Tuesday, he told that he was ready for any challenge that Royal Lytham will throw towards him.
According to him, he was not afraid of thick roughs and lush grass on the fairways, as he recently found the winning touch, which he will utilize in the third major event of the year.
This will be Donaldson’s second appearance in the British Open — the first one came in Hoylake in 2006 when he missed the cut. Last year, he also participated in the US PGA Championship held at the Atlanta Athletic Club. However, he missed the cut once again.
He told that he had been enjoying great weeks, especially when he qualified for the Open, followed by his maiden win on the European Tour.
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s a massive event,” he said. “There’s no reason why I can’t win. But I’m not going to go there with too many expectations. I’ll concentrate on what I did right in Ireland and try to do the same things again. It’s only my third
major and I probably should have played in more of them”.
“It’s a great course, but it’s set up much harder than it has been when I’ve played there in the past,” he added. “It’ll be a great experience. You never stop learning when you play golf. I think links golf is the best. It’s awesome. It’s great but it can
be very cruel at times”.
Tiger Woods, who now looks forward to adding another major title to his shelf, recently named the rough at Royal Lytham as ‘unplayable’. The defending champion Darren Clarke, in the meantime, also supported his comments by saying the grass on the course
is ‘brutal’.
Moreover, Woods said that he never faced such difficult course conditions in his professional career but he still expects high scores in the tournament.
