Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012: Americans seek to keep the title within the country
The Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 is scheduled to start from August 9-12, at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, with American contenders seeking to keep the title within the United States this year.
Last time, at the 2010 edition of the tournament, South Korean Na Yeon Choi walked away with the title.
Although the field of the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 is featuring plenty of battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) players, the spectators at Ohio will likely keep their eyes on the
national players.
Some of the prominent American players able to rattle their Asian rivals include Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lang, Angela Stanford, Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie.
Although Asians are going places these days and have kept their American rivals from pushing them out of the top 10 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, players like Lewis and Creamer can give a tough time to
non-US players.
Lewis, who has been performing well in the current season, has managed to improve her ranking to the second in the world. Despite being surrounded by plenty of Asian players in the Women’s World Golf Rankings,
the LPGA star does not seem to be under pressure at all, and is playing a natural game.
Analysts said that the only player in American squad, who can give a tough time to her Asian rivals, is Stacy Lewis. Lewis has been in tough battle against South Korean Na Yeon Choi in terms of positions in
world rankings.
Lewis recently surged past Choi, pushing her back to the third position. More importantly, Choi is the defending champion of the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, which means Lewis will have to keep a close eye on
her.
Another tough contender from the United States is Brittany Lang. Lang won the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012 in grand style. She displayed a superb performance at the event, as she beat three players
in playoff to win her first LPGA title.
Paula Creamer, who is seeking to end her victory drought, can also pose a threat to Asians. Creamer won the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic in 2008, which makes her one of the hot favourite contenders for the coveted
title.
Creamer shared her thought while speaking to the media, saying she is fully confident to repeat her 2008 performance this week.
