Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012: Mika Miyazato fires 68 to tie for second position on Friday
Japanese Mika Miyazato fired a 68 in the second round of the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 to stand tied for the second position along with two other LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars on Friday.
Miyazato displayed a stunning performance on the second day of the prestigious tournament being played at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, as she did not let windy conditions rattle her at all.
Her game looked superb as she missed only a few chances to make perfect putts. The Japanese star kept moving ahead on the back of confidence and resilience.
Miyazato, who shot a 66 in the opening round, kept the momentum going in the second round as she kept her nearest rivals from surging past her.
She kicked off the round in amazing style as she parred the first two holes. She impressed the spectators and her fans after she shot her first birdie on the third hole. After parring the next two holes, the rising LPGA star drained three straight birdies on the difficult par-3 6th, par-5 7th and par-3 8th.
Commentators said that posing three birdies in a row helped Miyazato consolidate her position on the leaderboard. She, however, carded three bogeys in the round, which hampered her from posting a bigger score.
Commentators also pointed out that Miyazato may find it a bit hard to keep her momentum going in the next two rounds as the field is featuring most of the big names on the Tour.
However, her performance in the first two rounds is satisfactory, and she can pose a serious challenge to the current leader. South Korean Chella Choi shot a 67 to grab a second-round lead.
Speaking to the media at the end of the second round, Miyazato said that she is happy with what she did on Friday, as other contenders also put their best feet forward.
She said that she is looking forward to the third and fourth round because she is confident enough to take on rivals.
“I'm very excited next two days. But very tough position also I think. I need more patience. I need more focus on my golf game. Very important,” the Japanese prodigy said. “I know the other people, but they play always pretty well. Like I seen like always make putts everywhere”.
