Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012: Stacy Lewis says windy conditions troubled her in second round
American Stacy Lewis, who carded a 69 in the second round of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 to tie for the 14th position, said that the windy conditions played havoc on Friday.
Lewis got off to a sensible start in prestigious tournament being played at the Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, and kept her momentum going on the second day as well.
Although the American star could not make it to the top 10 in the first two rounds, she is determined to improve her position in the final two rounds.
The second round was pretty much hit by rough weather conditions as strong wind swept through the course all day. Players found it a little hard to adjust to the grim weather, but most of them managed to pile
up huge scores.
Lewis, who recorded a 68 in the opening round of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, faced trouble making balanced strokes on some holes on Friday, but she held her ground most of the
day.
Commentators said that Lewis is being regarded as the hot favourite contender for title, but she still has not been able to unveil her usual game.
The first round saw her struggle to improve her position, and now that the second round has finished, the world number two is still outside the top 10.
Commentators also pointed out that despite plenty of support from the local crowd at Ohio, American contenders are finding it hard to surge past their Asian rivals.
South Korean Chella Choi posted a 67 in the second round to grab a lead. On the other hand, the second spot is also seized by Asian contenders.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Lewis said that she was firm to make a good start, but the rough weather conditions got in her way, hampering her from posting a good score.
“The wind was the opposite direction.  I think that affected a lot of the way the different holes played.  Some were shorter, some were longer,” the LPGA giant said. “I thought it played a little tougher today
because the conditions early on, we had some rain, just figuring out how far the ball was going.  The wind started to swirl there at the end”.
