Jamie Hampton outlasts Jarmila Gajdosova to reach round four – BNP Paribas Open 2012
American wildcard entrant, Jamie Hampton, is rocking the show at the BNP Paribas Open. She outfoxed the Aussie starlet, Jarmila Gajdosova, in the third round to book a date with the Pole superstar, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the fourth
round. She dug deep to nail down the Aussie in a three-setter ending with the cumulative scores of 6-2, 6(1)-7, 6-2.
Gajdosova is struggling to find some consistency in her game play. Her recent results clearly depict that she needs to revitalize her game plan and work hard on her technique to win matches. She has only won four matches out of
the last 10.
Hampton, on the other hand, is enjoying a sublime run of form at the courts. She has just lost a couple of matches of her last 10 face-offs against talented superstars. One of her major victims includes the likes of the Serb former
world number one, Jelena Jankovic, who lost in the second round of the Indian Wells earlier this week.
The first set witnessed a couple of late breakthroughs for the American, who crashed her opponent down by winning 32 points that included a couple of eye-startling aces. She won the set with a difference of six points and registered
an impressive first and second serve conversion rate of 71 per cent and 57 per cent respectively.
Unluckily for her, she couldn’t defend the all-round onslaught from the Aussie, who looked a bit agonized by the inferior ranked local starlet dominating the show without much resistance. A dismal start from the Aussie that witnessed
a couple of early breakpoints for the American was completely switched to a classic comeback courtesy to some breathtaking shot making.
A total of eight breakpoints were played in the set, divided equally between both the players. It opened up the set with a tie-breaker round into the play. A marvellous start to the tie-break witnessed the Aussie starlet running
away with the show and forcing her opponent to compete in three-sets.
The final set was totally hijacked by the local star. She converted two out of five allotted breakpoints and sealed the third round spot of the tournament.
