Jamie Langenbrunner re-signs with St. Louis Blues to one-year, $1.25 million deal -NHL Free Agency
St. Louis Blues have enough fire power as it already is and while Jamie Langenbrunner might not be known for his scoring abilities, the team that set new standards this past 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, plans on using him for much
more than that.
The 36-year-old veteran right winger signed on to St. Louis Blues for another season in the major league, which will be paying him a cool $1.25 million and another $250,000 in potential bonuses.
St. Louis Blues general manager, Doug Armstrong, made the announcement to keep Langenbrunner, who had become an unrestricted free agent, a part of the team.
"Bringing Jamie back was something we looked to do since the season ended," Armstrong said. "His work ethic and his professionalism and his ability to help a group trying to push a team to a new level was instrumental and we think he'll be a big piece of
the puzzle going forward."
Blues plan on using Langenbrunner’s abilities to help out the younger players on the squad as he provides a veteran leadership and someone to look up to.
"He plays a good role for Ken in getting the message to not only the leadership group, but the rest of the players," Armstrong added. "And he's a winner. He's won two Stanley Cups. He captained Team USA to the Olympics in 2010. Having those character people
in your organization is strong as we continue to develop and grow."
Langenbrunner will be playing his second season with St. Louis now after being acquired during last year’s free agency. At one point, he was a player who could score over 60 points a season, but this previous year, he had 24 points (6 goals, 18 assists)
in 70 games played.
St. Louis Blues made room prior to re-signing Langenbrunner as the club shipped off B.J. Crombeen to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a pair of picks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
It was a decision between Crombeen and Langenbrunner for St. Louis Blues and they obviously chose to go with the latter.
In a total of 1,105 games played, Jamie Langenbrunner has 662 points (243 goals, 419 assists).
