Jamie Lopez-Rivarola finishes second at the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Jamie Lopez-Rivarola of Argentina carded a one-over par 72, in the final round of the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to finish second on the leaderboard, on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
The tournament, which is also known as one of the premier golf tournaments around the world, was being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course.
A total of 61 male amateur players participated in this year’s edition of the tournament. In addition to that, the girls division of the event featured 33 female amateurs.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Lopez-Rivarola maintained consistency in his game and posted a decent score on the leaderboard.
Yet, he failed to challenge the Patrick Kelly, who stunned his opponents by carding a 19-under par 265, the second best tournament score in the history of the event.
Lopez-Rivarola opened his campaign on a high note by carding a two-under par 69 in the first round. He then drained seven birdie putts during the second round, against three bogeys, to register a four-under par 67 on day two.
The third round witnessed him breaking the par mark again, as he recorded a one-under par 70, courtesy of three birdies against two bogeys.
However, the Argentine failed to keep the momentum going into the final round, as he carded an over-par score for the first time in the event.
He got off to a decent start, as he birdied two of the first nine holes, while conceding a lone bogey, and finished the turn in one under.
Thereafter, he struggled with his game and bogeyed three of the first four holes that he played on the back nine of the course.
At the end of the day, he found himself settled 13 strokes behind the pace set by Kelly. Despite going over par for the final round, Lopez-Rivarola was pleased with his overall performance in the tournament.
According to the golf commentators, the Argentine had every reason to be glad of, as the final round did not affect his position on the leaderboard and he still clinched the runner-up spot on the leaderboard.
