Jamie Lovemark gears up for Phoenix Open
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is going to take place from February 2-5. There are several players who have what it takes to win the title. However, one player who has gained attention and substantial media coverage is Jamie Lovemark.
Lovemark can prove his skills in the event because he has shown resilience in the past.
The Phoenix Open will feature a strong 132-man field, with the participation of defending champion Mark Wilson and Bubba Watson.
Although the tournament is expected to see a tough battle due to the participation of leading players, Lovemark cannot be written off as an underdog.
Born in Rancho Santa, California, he went to Torrey Pines High School and polished his golfing expertise.
His profile does not include so many victories but he did manage to gain some outstanding achievements. In 2005, he racked up the Western Amateur title and came in the spotlight.
As an amateur, Lovemark remained spectacular and was among the most talented players for years. In addition to winning the 2005 Western Amateur, he racked up a number of triumphs.
In 2004, he grabbed the headlines when he clinched the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions. Moreover, in 2007, he won the NCAA Championship.
After he turned professional, his game saw considerable improvements and he seemed to go on the winning track.
His most spectacular performance came in the year 2010 when he racked a title at Mexico Open Bicentenary at El Bosque Country Club.
Lovemark was a rookie at the time he added the victory to his profile. He carded a 4-under 68.
The field at the El Bosque was stronger than the American had expected but he came off well, keeping his rivals at a distance.
Lovemark got in a tough battle with BJ Staten on the final hole. Both Lovemark and Staten launched their balls into the fairway but the former was quicker to act. He putted the ball in an impressive style, winning the tournament.
Lovemark expressed his thoughts after the tournament, saying that he did not think he would be able to perform so well.
He added that the shot he made on the 18th came as a big surprise to him, as he was not mentally prepared for the dramatic victory.
"It was definitely the best shot I've hot in a really long time," Lovemark said. "My caddy and I figured the ball would go twelve percent farther due to elevation and another eight percent because of adrenaline. I hit a perfect six-iron from 235-yards. I
think it was half luck, half skill".
Waste Management Phoenix Open, which will be played at the TPC Scottsdale, will offer $1,098,000 for the winner.
Moreover, 75 players who stand among the top 125 money leaders will also be shining at the TPC Scottsdale.
Top-ranked players gearing up to show up at Scottsdale include Webb Simpson, Sang-Moon Bae, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.
There are other top-ranked players who have given their commitment, such as Jonathan Byrd who currently ranks 65th.
Moreover, Brandt Snedeker who won the Farmers Insurance Open, last week, will also feature in the event.
One player who will surely spice up the field is Mark Calcavecchia. Calcavecchia is the three-time winner of the Phoenix Open and is participating this year because of a sponsor exemption.
Lovemark knows that if he has to win the tournament, he will have to really put his skills to test.
