Jamie Lovemark wins Web.com Tour’s Midwest Classic – Golf news
Jamie Lovemark fired a five-under par 66 in the final round of the Midwest Classic Presented by Cadillac to claim a one-stroke victory over ark Anderson, on Sunday, July 21, 2013.
The tournament being played at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate, is featuring some of the best Web.com Tour players from different parts of the world.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Lovemark played brilliantly well and stunned his opponents with the final round charge to finish on top of the leaderboard.
He started his campaign with a 67 on day one, followed by a 68 in the second round. After carding a 65 on day three, he was trailing the overnight leader Chesson Hadley by two strokes and was holding the third spot.
The final round witnessed him making a slow start, as he birdied two of the first five holes while conceding a bogey on the third. He then parred each of the next four holes and reached the turn in one-under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him picking up some pace and he added another four shots to his scorecard without making a single mistake.
On the 18th hole, his 9-iron approach shot found a greenside bunker and there was a good chance that the game will enter into the sudden-death playoffs. However, the American did not allow that to happen, as he easily managed to get out of it and saved the par.
“That was a big bunker shot for me at No. 18 and I don't recall ever making a putt to win like that,” Lovemark said. “It's one of those putts you practice when fooling around and telling yourself, 'This is to win the British Open.' It felt really good to make it.”
Talking to the reporters, he also expressed his pleasure in returning from the surgery that he went through in 2011 and play the full season this year.
“It feels great to be playing well again and this win is a huge relief for me,” added the American. “It was nice to finally put four good rounds together.”
