Jamie Mackie delighted to open Scotland scoring account

Queens Park Rangers striker Jamie Mackie says that he is delighted to have netted his first international goal for Scotland in the 3-0 friendly victory over Faroe Islands on Wednesday 17 November.

The match, held at Aberdeen's Pittodrie home, saw Mackie receive his third cap after he made his debut in the 1-0 UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying loss to Czech Republic in October and played against 2010 FIFA World Cup winners Spain that
same month.

After debutant Danny Wilson of Liverpool and Derby County's Kris Commons had put the Scots ahead, 25-year-old Mackie stabbed home a knockdown by Wilson just before half-time to complete the victory.

English-born Mackie, who is eligible to play for Scotland through his grandfather, told reporters that he hoped there were plenty more international goals to come.

He told reporters that: "It was a beautiful feeling when the ball hit the net. It was nice to get the tap-in and open my account. Hopefully there are many more goals to come for Scotland. There's an element of pressure when you come into the squad because you're
asked to perform. I wanted to show everyone what I'm about to make sure I stay in the squad. The pressure is from myself and I'm pleased with how I did."

Mackie was especially pleased to start up front for his country after playing on the right of midfield in national team coach Craig Levein's unconventional striker-less 4-6-0 formation in Prague.

He added that: "Against the Czechs I was asked to fill a role which wasn't my natural position. I'm a striker but physically I was able to play wide and I thought I coped well. But up front is my favourite position and hopefully I'll play there again. It's
a different level with international football. Hopefully I can keep doing well for my club side and country.”
