Jamie Mackie is proud of Scottish call
Queens Park Rangers Jamie Mackie says that he is proud and honoured to be called up to the Scottish squad for October’s European Qualifying matches with the Czech Republic and Spain.
The 25 year old qualifies through his Kilmarnock born grandfather.
"Me and my grandfather used to speak about it a lot and it is a real honour for me to get the chance," said the striker. "It was something I always knew was possible. I knew I qualified to play for Scotland but I was not sure if anybody else knew.”
"I have been given a bit more of a profile with QPR and I think people are now starting to take notice of me," he added.
Mackie has started the season in great form and has scored eight goals for his club QPR this season helping them to the top of the Championship.
Mackie only cost QPR manager Neil Warnock £150,000 in the summer and has been one of the bargains in the transfer market.
He has played with Wimbeldon, Milton Keynes Dons, Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and has spent a period on loan with Sutton United.
The striker has made a massive transition since moving to QPR and he will hope that a run in the international team will help him develop as a player.
"This has been a long road for me but I am nowhere near the end of it," added the striker
"I am not a player who has burst onto the scene as a teen – I've had to work very hard to get where I am.
"I suppose in a way it makes this more satisfying because I've had to work my way up.
"To be honest, the thought of playing against Spain, the world champions, is ridiculous but it makes no difference the opposition, I am just delighted to be involved."
