Jamie McBain receives 2-year deal, words of praise from Carolina Hurricanes-NHL News
Carolina Hurricanes’ general manager, Jim Rutherford, has credited defenseman, Jamie McBain, over the success in having established himself as a rather mature defensive player in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the younger age of 24.
Rutherford said that it was very rare for such a young player to achieve so much success, which was rather impressive and remarkable feat for McBain.
The words of the endorsement have come from the official following the confirmation of a two-year extension into the player’s contract, which facilitates him to successfully avoid the free agency.
McBain’s current deal was set to expire in June this year, and from July 01, he was set to hit the free agency as a restricted free agent.
Before coming to that point, Hurricanes have agreed to fresh terms with the player, signing with him the two-year contract valuing $3.6 million that the player is set to earn over the stipulated period.
Other terms of the deal were not made public by any of the stakeholders.
Rutherford, meanwhile, has spoken high of the player’s abilities and talent, which is probably more welcome for the player than the deal itself.  The approval of his talent was must for his future prospects with the team.
Rutherford said:
"Jamie is still a very young player who has established himself as an NHL defenseman. He moves the puck well and has shown that he can contribute offensively, especially on the power play."
The 2011-2012 was the second consecutive season of the player and he continued to build on his performance from the level he had left a year earlier.
He ended the season with the record of 19 assists and 27 points. He also had eight goals to his credit. Five of them were scored on power-play.
Apparently, the player seems to be happy to return to the side next season, as neither he nor his agent had offered their comments on the deal matter.
McBain was the second-round pick for 60th overall position in the 2006 draft.
