Jamie Murray says he can help Andy Murray in forgetting the sorrow of Wimbledon – Tennis News
Great Britain’s number one doubles tennis player, Jamie Murray, has said that he wants to end his brother’s, Andy Murray, Wimbledon disappointment by helping him to win Gold medal in the doubles category at the London Olympics.
Andy became the first British player to reach the final at the All England Club in the last 74 years. However, he could not become the first player to capture the Crown since 1936, as he lost to one of the best players in the tennis
history, Roger Federer, in the title match.
The world number four could not hold his emotions during the presentation ceremony, crying badly on losing his fourth straight Grand Slam final. Excluding few weeks, Andy has remained in the top four of the ATP Singles Rankings
in the last four years. He rose to the number two position in the world at one time but the British number one singles player has been unable to win any Major so far. He has failed to end Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic’s monopoly on the Grand
Slams, who have won 29 of the last 30 Grand Slams between them.
Losing the Wimbledon final was a huge disappointment for the Brit, as all of his British fans were looking at him to end his Grand Slam drought. Andy was even finding it difficult to speak to the crown after losing that match,
such was the level of his grief.
In a recent interview, Jamie said, "But he still had a great tournament, he performed very well in the final and it was just unfortunate he came up against probably the greatest player of all time.”
He added, "That's just the way it is at the moment in tennis, you have got three or four guys who are just in a different league from anyone else.”
Jamie and Andy have won a couple of doubles title together. Jamie plays with other partners on regular basis but Andy mostly plays with his brother. The British siblings grabbed crown at the Valencia Open 500 in 2010 and Rakuten
Japan Open Tennis Championships in 2011.
The elder brother, Jamie, went on to say, "We will prepare as best as we can and I look forward to getting out there with him. We will shoot for a gold medal, we don't want to lose so we may as well win it."
Andy and Jamie will try to improve their 2008 result, when they lost in the second round.
