Jamie Peacock unhappy with England's Four Nations defeat - Rugby League
While talking to reporters in a post-match press conference of Gillette Four Nations Final, English coach, Jamie Peacock, was not happy with his side’s embarrassing 30-8 defeat against Australia at Elland Road, Leeds, on Saturday, November 19.
England were hoping to defeat Australia this time but they could not match up to the high standards of opposition despite their extremely good form throughout the length of the game. The first-half of the game, saw Australia establishing an early lead into
the game by a try scored by Sam Thaiday. This lead continued to stretch into half-time. The English side answered back to Thaiday’s try to settle scores at 8-6.
There were still some signs of resistance from Red Roses during the first half of the crucial game but the latter half was extremely disappointing, as there was no valuable input from their side beyond the 8-8.
England displayed a sloppy overall performance during the Four Nations Final, which had completely crushed their hopes of winning against Roos.
While expressing his side’s loss, Peacock stated, "It is definitely an opportunity missed. From my personal point of view, there's not many of these left and it hurts a lot. The way we played in the first 60 minutes meant we dropped off in the last 20. It
was a ballsy effort to stay in the game. We weren't executing the way we liked and that means you expend a lot of energy and that told in the last 20 minutes. Even without playing as well as we would have liked, we were still in it with 20 minutes to go. It
was there to be taken. But you need to be error-free when you're playing the Aussies."
Meanwhile, the superior side embarked on a scoring spree during the second half of Four Nations final, where Australia’s Yow Yeh, Inglis and Johnathan Thurston ran in tries for their side to further widen the gap in between. That was not all from Thurston’s
side. He scored a total of five goals for his side and won the man of the match title.
Australian skipper, Darren Lockyer, wrapped up his stellar career on a high note by booting the last goal of the game to claim the Four Nations victory.
Australia was overall superb in their final game against Englishmen, which is their sixth successive win at Elland Roads.
