Jamie Redknapp praises superb defence by Vincent Kompany against Rooney
Ex-Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, has heaped praise on Mancester City’s, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Kompany-c36184, for his defending during the Manchester derby. He believes that Kompany was truly unlucky to be on the losing side in their 2-1 defeat by Manchester
United.
Redknapp told the Daily Mail, “Vincent Kompany was quite brilliant in the derby for City and did not deserve to lose the game. He bossed Rooney for much of the game, but was caught out by a deflection that altered the flight of the ball. Even as the cross
drifted over him, he would have thought: it's OK, it's behind Rooney, he has his back to goal. We know what happened next.” Manchester United won the derby thanks to Wayne Rooney’s wonder strike from Nani’s cross from the right.
Kompany has been one of the most consistent performers for Manchester City this season. He plays as a central defender and his physical game is his best quality. The Belgian international has played every minute of City’s Premier League matches this season
and is a pivotal factor behind their success. His versatility is a huge asset for Manchester City because he can play in the central midfield and also in a holding role. Kompany has also been able to score three goals in a City jersey.
Kompany started his professional career from Belgian club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394, in 2002. He won the Belgian player-of-the-year award in 2004. In 2006, he signed to Hamburg for a fee of approximately eight million Euros. Even though he struggled with injuries
at the start of his Hamburg career, he scored his first goal for the club on 28th October, 2007, against MSV Duisburg.
Kompany was part of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 squad in the 2008 Olympics but had to return to Hamburg as he was allowed to play only two matches by the club. He wanted to stay with the international squad but the club did not allow him to continue. This decision later
forced him to join Manchester City in 2008. In his first season with the club he made only a few appearances while the following year was hindered by the injuries. This year has seen the Belgian flourish and help Manchester City become a title contender.
