Jamie Roberts to miss next clash of Heineken Cup against London Irish - Rugby News
The 25-year-old Jamie Roberts is set to miss the upcoming clash of the Heineken Cup for Cardiff Blues scheduled to be played against London Irish on November 18. The midfielder will miss the fixture due to an injury to his knee he sustained during their
opening game against Racing Metro. Roberts was undergone a scan after twisting his knee in the Paris clash which determined him unfit for at least the next match. Cardiff Blues coach, Justin Burnell, told the media on November 15 that Roberts is likely to
be rested for Friday’s encounter.
Roberts is the key member of Cardiff Blues and his absence will be a real loss to his side. He played a vital role in his team’s victory during the last game and the side was expecting more good performances from the mid-fielder before he was side lined
by the injury.
Jamie Roberts has been in a good nick since the last few years and he boosted his side during Rugby World Cup 2011 as well. He was given the role to play at number 12 position in the global showpiece and proved himself as a good campaigner. He scored a couple
of good tries during the Pool matches against Fiji and helped his side to a win of 66-0.
Roberts made his debut with Blues back in 2007 and so far he has participated in 69 games for his team. He has also secured 38 test caps under his belt while playing for Wales.
Meanwhile, talking about his fresh injury, the Blues coach said that, “Jamie twisted his knee in a tackle in Paris. He went for a scan yesterday and we are still waiting for the results but our physios are confident that there is nothing serious there, and
he is running on it already.”
He also added that the player is expected to be fit for next to Friday’s clash. He argued, “He will not be fit for this week but he will be fit if he needs a game against Aironi next week and he is going to be fit for Wales.”
Cardiff Blues are left with two Pool matches in the ongoing Heineken Cup.
