Jamie Subandhi paves path to semi-final of 2013 Canadian International Challenge – Badminton news
Women’s Singles event of Ottawa Canadian International Challenge got another semi-finalist when Jamie Subandhi waylaid Yasmin Cury in the quarter-finals on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
This short-lived tussle was staged at the local badminton complex of Ottawa where both contenders remained head-to-head just for 20 minutes. The American campaigner ruled the court in both segments of the showdown and sealed a splendid straight-set victory
with 21-11 and 21-8.
There was lot of fireworks in the opening game of match as Jamie unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes immediately in the beginning. She did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and confined her opponent in the rear court.
At first, she mounted pressure by claiming many valuable points in a row and then doubled the impact by piling up a convincing total way before the one-minute break.
The Brazilian shuttler was no comparison to her higher ranked rival as she remained at the lower end throughout this segment of the showdown. Yasmin could not employ an effective counterattack strategy and finished first half of the set with a significant
deficit. She failed to come out of this deficit in latter part of the game and this situation hit her hard.
On the other hand, Jamie showed consistency in her performance and tipped the scale in her favour with a staggering knock. She maintained an overwhelming lead of ten points and wrapped this segment with 21-11 score on the board.
The trouble was double for Yasmin in second set of match as her competitor played with even more precision and cast her away. The Brazilian shuttler kept trailing behind all the way to game point situation and ultimately this passive approach led her to
a woeful exit.
Meanwhile, Jamie displayed an unbeatable craft on court and proved herself superior technically and tactically. She laid foundation of her success immediately in the beginning and raised her chances of straight-set victory by placing a decent margin of 11.
After the one-minute interval, the American player launched an intensive attack and stole the limelight with a blistering performance of 21-8.
Now, she is scheduled to meet Michelle Li in semi-finals of Canadian International Challenge.
