Jamila Fatima Cruz trounces Kristina Tan in pre-quarter-final of MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza
Philippines’ talented female shuttler, Jamila Fatima Cruz, did a marvellous job as she tamed Kristina Tan in the Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza, in Davao, Philippines, on Sunday, July 31.
Jamila delivered a superb performance in the third round of the tournament by playing to her full potential. She remained ahead of her opponent in both sets by dictating the pace of the game. She took just 26 minutes of court time to thrash her challenger
in a straight-set fight.
The opening game of the match saw a superb display of top-quality badminton from Jamila, who showed no mercy to her rival and established a stunning lead of 11-3 in the first-half. Kristina tried different tactics to stop the aggressive run of her opponent,
but failed as Jamila was playing flawless badminton.
After the break in the first set, Jamila continued her roller-coaster run by playing a fast game. She spared no time for her challenger to get behind the bird, as her attacking clears disturbed the flow of her opponent. By utilising her wonderful skills,
Jamila won the first game with a dramatic gap of 21-9, in just 10 minutes.
Kristina played better badminton in the second game and remained equal to her opponent by matching the pace of the rallies. However, Jamila geared up her speed at the net and started to play spinning net strokes, which earned her a decent advantage of 11-8
in the opening half.
After the break, Jamila kept the pace of the game high by hitting fast shots in all corners of her rival’s court. She controlled the game in an impressive manner and kept her challenger moving around in the court. Kristina failed to match the speed of her
opponent in the second-half of the second game.
Jamila remained on the right track and took 16 minutes to grab the second set with a margin of 21-15. This 26-minute straight-set fight ended with a 21-9 and 21-15 score on the board.
