Jammu and Kashmir to participate in IPL in future editions – Cricket News Update
With the evident rise in the popularity of T20 cricket, largely attributed to the advent of the now highly successful Indian Premier League, it has been reported that Jammu and Kashmir governments are inclined to embrace the lucrative league wholeheartedly,
by ensuring that one of their state teams participates in the coming seasons.
The IPL is currently in its fifth edition and its success has perplexed many, despite concerns over its longevity. However, the league is not short of admirers, and the organizers are eager to revamp the competition every year.
One such initiative could see the involvement of Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Sport Minister R.S Chib has expressed his willingness to participate in the thrilling event with an independent team, in a bid to make their first appearance in the near future.
"We are trying best to channelize the hidden talent of the state and time is not far when the state of J&K will send its own team in Indian Premier League," said Chib.
The 69-year-old minister believes that the initiative needs to be supported by local investors and financers in order to boost the level of cricket in the state. He further added that players from both teams, Jammu and Kashmir, will be merged into one, and
will represent the state in the cash-rich mega event.
“merger of the two premier leagues into a unified Jammu and Kashmir Premier League to have best of cricketers for participation in IPL in future," he added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association’s (JKCA) head, Farooq Abdullah, and his patronage, Omar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdullah-c890, have also shown support in this regard and remain keen on forming a state side. Chib, however, hopes to receive equal assistance from the Board of
Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI).
It is to be noted that Army has already held T-20 Premier Leagues in the J&K, and their valuable contributions have raised the standard of cricket in the region.
"Such prestigious events are launched in view of the need of boosting cricket at domestic level to nurture and build local talent,” said the Sports Minister."If we build on this platform over the next few years, we will have a format that could revolutionise
the sports world of the state.”
