Jamoris Slaughter expected to start for Notre Dame against Stanford
Notre Dame Fighting Irish safety Jamoris Slaughter is expected to be in the line-up when they take on the Stanford Cardinals this weekend.
Slaughter sprained his ankle in the season opener against Perdue and was forced out of the line-up for the Irish’s loss to Michigan in week two. The youngster was able to come off the bench in last week’s match-up with Michigan State, but was not fit enough
to start.
In addition, Notre Dame will welcome back defensive line and special teams coach Mike Elston who was not available for the game against Michigan State because of illness.
Notre Dame will be keen to get both Slaughter and Elston back as they gave up over 25 points in both their losses and are now 76th in the nation on defence. Moreover, the Fighting Irish are going to need all the help they can get on the defensive
side of the ball as Stanford has been formidable on the ground this year and has scored at least 35 points in each of their games so far.
The Cardinals' offence has been successful in part to outstanding play from the team’s star receiver Ryan Whalen, who has registered 10 catches for 103 yards and one touchdown already this season.
However, Notre Dame is still uncertain as to whether or not Whalen will be in the line-up on Saturday as the senior suffered an injury last week against Wake Forest and could not finish the game.
Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh has not revealed whether Whalen would make the start, saying when asked about his star receiver’s status. “I’m not going to tell you anything. As soon as we tell you, you tell Notre Dame. There’s no advantage to doing that.”
Nevertheless, the Irish will be excited to get Slaughter back in the line-up to help with pass coverage, especially if Whalen does suit up.
