Jamshed, Talha shine as NBP thrash ZTBL
National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) defeated Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) by eight wickets in a Group B fixture of the Faysal Bank National One Day Tournament 2010-11 Division One on Thursday.
Both of these teams boast star-studded squads however, they have failed to impress in the current domestic season. NBP’s victory was led by Nasir Jamshed and Naumanullah, who have both represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in One Day International (ODI) cricket, only to
be forgotten by the selectors later on.
At the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore, ZTBL Captain Imran Nazir won the toss and elected to bat first on a classic batting track. However, ZTBL got off to a bad start as Test cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811 was run out without facing a ball. Soon ZTBL were three wickets
down with only 50 runs on the board. A brilliant partnership between youngsters Babar Azam and Haris Sohail then ensured that ZTBL got to a competitive total of 222 runs before being bowled out in the 45thover of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 supported him ably with a brilliant 61 before he was caught behind by part-time wicketkeeper Rashid Riaz
off the bowling of Mohammad Talha. Azam struck six boundaries in his knock which came off 73 balls. ZTBL captain Imran Nazir also played a cameo of 33 runs.
Mohammad Talha, who is having a wonderful domestic season starred again for NBP, as he took three crucial wickets after giving away only 29 runs in 7.1 overs. Wasim Khan also picked up three wickets whereas Fawad Alam claimed a couple of scalps.
Chasing a mediocre score to seal victory, openers Nasir Jamshed and Umar Amin got NBP off to a great start. Both the batsmen put together 62 runs for the first wicket partnership to destroy ZTBL’s hopes of picking up early wickets. Later on Naumanullah and
Fawad Alam combined for a 90-run partnership to see their team home.
Nasir Jamshed and Naumanullah starred for NBP as both of them scored 67 runs each. Test cricketer and NBP Captain Fawad Alam remained unbeaten with Naumanullah as he scored 46 runs off only 32 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Umar Amin, who struck
a brilliant hundred in the previous game, missed out on a start this time as he was caught behind for 24 off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Zia-c69672.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rehan-Riaz-c84633 and Junaid Zia picked up the only two wickets to fall in NBP’s innings. Test fast bowler Mohammad Talha was named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding spell which ensured ZTBL’s batting never got going.
Talha made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore in 2009 where he was a touch expensive. However, a brilliant showing in the current domestic season should convince the selectors to give him a longer run in international cricket
so that he can prove his worth.
