Jan Barta targeting the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Jan Barta of Team NetApp has ruled the Giro d’ Italia as the biggest goal of his 2012 season.
The cyclist is currently enjoying a terrific season and is certain to capitalise on his superb form for the coming events.
The first win of his career came during the Settimana internazionale di Coppi e Bartali after he secured the 5th stage of the race.
Jan also claimed the overall victory at the race after his tremendous performance during the event and finished first during the Rund um Koln.
The 27-year-old started his professional pursuit with Team PSK Whirlpool-Hradec Krlove in 2005 and stayed with the team by the end of 2006.
He accepted an offer from Team IVP Vienna for the 2007 season and penned a deal with Team Arbo-KTM-Junkers for 2008-09 seasons.
Barta joined Team NetApp in 2010 season and is continuing his third consecutive season with the side.
While commenting on the coming goals of his 2012 season, he told Velochrono, "When you are alone against the clock, everything depends on you and on nothing else”.
“You fight against yourself, against time, against the wind. And I like that".
The German professional team has been invited to the Giro d’ Italia through the wild card entry and is looking ahead to claim stages at the 2012 version of the Italian Grand Tour.
"It's the second greatest race in the world, Just to say that feels... special. I'm not afraid of disappointing”.
“After the races we competed in last year, notably the Tour de Suisse, our programme has improved and our team has made progress".
"We were criticised a lot, especially in Italy. Which is why it was important to win at Coppi e Bartali”.
The 95th edition of the Giro d’ Italia is scheduled from May 5th -27th and the German team is optimistic to succeed during the coming race.
Team NetApp was founded back in 2010 as a UCI Professional Continental team and the side rode brilliantly in the 2011 season.
Jan Barta proved his mettle with the 3rd place finish during the Tour of Britain 2012 and occupied the 8th overall spot at the Tour of Austria.
Only time will tell, if the German team can make an impact at the 2012 edition of the Giro d’ Italia.
