Jan Hajek ousts Juan Pablo Brzezicki 6-1, 6-0
Czech Jan Hajek, ranked 166th in the world, destroyed world number 171 Juan Pablo Brzezicki of Argentina in straight sets in the opening round at the BNP Paribas Polish Open in Sopot, Poland on Tuesday. Hajek dropped
only one game, claiming the set 6-1, 6-0 in just 54 minutes.
The right-handed broke Brzezicki in the second game of the opening set and consolidated on it, grabbing a 3-0 lead. Hajek broke the Argentinean again in the sixth game and served out the set at 5-1. The Czech kept his first serve
percentage at 67 percent and delivered two aces in the first set. The 27-year-old saved all the four break points he faced on his own serve and won both break points he received on Brzezicki’s serve in the opening set.
Hajek crushed the Argentinean in the second set as he did not allow him to win any game, breaking the 29-year-old thrice to claim the set 6-0. The Czech smashed Brzezicki’s first serves, sealing seven of the ten first return points
in the second set.
The five feet and eleven inches tall will take on second seed Flavio Cipolla of Italy in the second round.
Florent Serra defeats Ivo Minar 6-2, 6-3
World number 136 Florent Serra of France ousted Czech Ivo Minar, ranked 150th in the world, in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round. The match lasted for an hour and three minutes.
Serra broke the Czech twice in the opening set, losing just two games to grab the set 6-2. The French kept his first serve percentage at 77 percent and smacked three aces in the first set. The 30-year-old won the two break points
he received on the Czech’s serve and saved both break points he faced on his own serve in the opening set.
With winning momentum on his side, the French broke Minar in the fifth game and held his next service game to go up 4-2. Serving at 3-5, the Czech was unable to hold his serve, losing the set 3-6. The right-handed won an incredible
thirteen of the fifteen first service points in the second set. The French clinched both break points he received on Minar’s serve and did not face any break point on his own serve in the second set.
Serra is drawn to meet Italian Simone Bolelli, seeded seventh at the event, in the round of 16. Bolelli overpowered Maciej Smola in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the first round.
