Jan Hajek crumbles Kenny De Schepper in first round fixture – Slovak Open 2011
Jan Hajek, Czech world No.141, desolated his opening round challenger of Slovak Open 2011, Kenny De Schepper, French world No.139, ousting him in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, in just over an hour indoor hard court matches at Bratislava,
Slovakia on Tuesday 15th of November 2011.
Despite the disparity in ranking, Hajek still managed to pull off an easy win over the Frenchman. Formerly ranked world No.71, Czech’s performance in the last ten games has been considerably satisfactory. Anyhow, with the two walking
down the court, the referee did the toss followed by the two warming up for the start.
Kicking off with the fixture, Schepper took his side to serve the match opener. Rolling down the scoreboard, Frenchman took out the opening game of the fixture, 1-0, and switched the serve. Following the Frenchman, Hajek took out
his first serve and levelled up the scores, 1-1.
Continuing next, Schepper served game three to lead the set, 2-1, however, Czech world No.141 did not lose the run and levelled up at 2-2 right away. Rallying down game five and six, the two levelled up again at 3-3 before the
higher ranked rival was brought down by Hajek.
Schepper serving his fourth game, tumbled and broke down as Hajek won a triple breakpoint winner and led the scoreboard, 4-3. Serving out his fourth serve, Czech mustered away in lead bagging game eight, 5-3. With just one more
win to finish off the set, the spectacular world No.141 broke his rival for the second time in three games to conclude the set with a 6-3 win.
With a super finish in the first set, Hajek continued with the second set. Serving first, the 28-year-old pulled off the first set with an easy finish and followed on to return the next game, 1-0. Ranked 139, Schepper served his
first game of the second set, however, failed to manoeuvre it to a win.
Breaking the higher ranked Frenchman in game two, Hajek took a strong start once again and extended his lead from 2-nil to 3-nil before Schepper won his first game of the set, 1-3. Unable to breakback, Schepper fell down in lead
as Hajek maintained his lead winning game five, 4-1.
The final four games of the second set were extremely fiery. Trying to break each other, Schepper finally broke through winning the final game of the match, game eight, to win the set, 6-2, and the match in straight sets with a
surprising breakpoint finish.
Making his way into the second stage of the year end ATP Challenger Tour event, Hajek moves on to play Lukas Lacko, Slovakian, as the two battle out for a seat in the quarter-final of Slovak Open 2011.
