Jan Hajek slaughters Yann Marti in the first round – Orleans Challenger 2011
Lucky loser Yann Marti of Switzerland was tied with the Czech, Jan Hajek in the first round of Orleans Challenger contested in France, on Tuesday October 18th. The first meeting between the two was very unlucky for the
lucky loser. He lost the match in just fifty-six minutes suffering a 3-6, 1-6 defeat.
World No.138, Hajek, was enjoying a good run of form having won seven of his last ten encounters whilst his opponent has lost four of his last ten. It was a complete mismatch as the lucky loser was just lucky enough to make it
to the first round but his flight back to his country was confirmed with this defeat.
First set was majorly dominated by the match favourite Hajek who pulled of a scintillating show having won 74% points on his first serve and followed it up with a crucial break-point that rounded off the first triumph for him.
He scored two aces and won 32 of the total 53 points played.
Marti was very impressive with his power play and smashed five delicately placed aces but he couldn’t couple it up with some exciting display in any other aspect and hence lost the first set as expected.
The second set was an easy drive through for Hajek who bulldozed the lucky loser in all aspects. He thumped three aces and broke his opponent’s serve thrice to pocket the second set. 79% first serve points winning rate and 67%
second return serve success rate was some of the fascinating stats for the Czech.
The overall performance from Hajek was really remarkable; he won 62 points in total compared to just 37 of his opponent and cruised into the second round in a dashing fashion. Marti had his moments; five aces and four successful
games but there is still a lot to improve to play at this level for the youngster.
Jan Hajek will now square-off against the winner of the match between the top seeded wildcard entrant Feliciano Lopez of Spain and Arnaud Clement of France.
