Jan O Jorgensen and Lee Hyun Il ease into the second round of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen and Korea’s Lee Hyun Il confirmed their place in the second round of men’s singles after winning their first round battles in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, being held at Basel, Switzerland, on the 16th of March.
In the first round, the top seed Jorgensen thrashed Ville Lang of Finland in straight sets by consuming just 30 minutes, whereas Lee Hyun defeated Eric Pang of Netherlands in straight games by taking only 27 minutes. In the second round of the event, Jorgensen
will meet teammate Christian Lind Thomsen and the Korean will take on the 11th seed Joachim Persson of Denmark.
The opening set of the match was very interesting as Ville was playing well by matching the speed and accuracy of Jorgensen. The score progressed with the same pace from both sides and reached 9-9, where the Danish scored two consecutive points and took
a slight lead of 11-9 by the end of the opening half of the first game.
After the break, both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe as both were playing an aggressive brand of badminton, and tied the score at 19-19. At this crucial stage, Jorgensen employed his extensive experience and kept the shuttle c**k quite low that earned him
the remaining two points in a row. He won the first set by a tight margin of 21-19, in 18 minutes.
In the second game, the Dane took only 12 minutes to crush the opponent with a staggering margin of 21-12. Jorgensen was very quick and spared no opportunity for the opponent to come back in the game. The concluding score of the match was 21-19 and 21-12.
In another men’s singles match, Lee Hyun showed no mercy to Eric Pang and butchered him in straight sets. The opening set was completely dominated by the Korean who was dictating the pace of the game and found no resistance from the Dutch. Lee Hyun won the
first set with a big difference of 21-13 by spending just 12 minutes in the court.
In the second game, the Dutchman tried to match the game of the Korean but failed to control the speed of the bird. At the interval, Lee Hyun was leading by 11-8, and stretched his lead after the break by playing a more attacking game. The Korean won the
second set with a decent margin of 21-16, in 15 minutes. The final score of the 27-minute-match was 21-13 and 21-16.
