Jan O Jorgensen ensures his presence in Men’s Singles semi-finals of 2013 Swiss Open
Denmark’s talented shuttler Jan O Jorgensen stretched his winning streak in the Swiss Open and marched into the semi-final round of Men’s Singles event on Friday, March 15, 2013.
He faced a young Malaysian campaigner, Wei Feng Chong and their meeting prolonged to 54 minutes in local badminton complex of Basil.
This hard-fought tussle proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as they had to sweat hard while piling up decisive figures of 13-21, 21-14 and 21-14.
Though, Jorgensen lost the first set but he managed to rise from the dust when it mattered. He sealed a splendid 2-1 victory and setup his next clash with Wang Zhengming of China.
In the opening game of the match, Wei Feng displayed amazing craft on the court and confounded his experienced rival.
He did not give his competitor enough time to settle down and established a decent lead immediately in the beginning.
This early advantage helped him to proceed on the points table and widened the gap before the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, the Danish player made every effort to counterbalance the situation but he had to surrender after reading 13-21 score on the board.
However, Jorgensen showed strong character even after this severe blow. He displayed maturity in his craft and managed to bring the contest to the right balance in the very next game.
This time he played with an authoritative approach and gained a significant advantage in no time. He mounted pressure by placing a respectable total of 11 and then magnified the impact with a few back-to-back productive rallies in the third quarter of the
set.
Wei Feng could not employ an effective counterattack strategy and lost this crucial game with a 14-21 margin.
The decider turned into a survival of the fittest war as both shuttlers were just one step away from an entry in the semi-final round.
Initially, they stood toe-to-toe and made the crowd gasp with a stunning performance. However, latter part of the game was completely dominated by Jorgensen as he maintained a convincing lead all the way to final moments.
He registered an overwhelming score of 21-14 and secured his berth in next round of Swiss Open.
