Denmark’s talented shuttler Jan O Jorgensen had a great start in Swiss Open as he thrashed K. Srikanth in the opening match and marched into the second round on March 12, 2013.
This Men’s Singles encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Basil and it remained in full swing for 47 minutes.
Though, Jorgensen lost the first set with 10-21 score but he managed to win the match by clinching the last two sets with 21-17 and 21-13 margin.
However, the young Indian campaigner also earned a great deal of admiration for showing commendable fighting spirit.
Srikanth, who was an underrated player in this tournament, served notice of his potential by claiming the opening match point.
He amazed every one with his aggressive game plan and raised his chances of success by ruling the court in the first set.
In first half of the set, the young but spirited Srikanth did not show any sign of bewilderment and piled up a significant total before the mid-game break.
He relished full benefits of this advantage in latter part of the game and wrapped this segment of the showdown with an impressive result of 21-10.
However, it proved his last success in this prestigious event as Jorgensen stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale in his favour.
The Danish campaigner employed all of his brilliance in the game and brought the contest to the right balance.
At first, he counterbalanced the situation with an intensive attack and then capitalised this initial lead to register a decent total before half-time.
After the one-minute interval, he bagged many valuable points in a row and widened the gap on the points table. This series of productive strokes helped him to put up a winning figure of 21-17.
