Jan O Jorgensen penetrates into Men’s Singles semi-final of German Open GP Gold – Badminton news
Denmark’s spirited player Jan O Jorgensen showed that he is ready to challenge the world as he penetrated into Men’s Singles semi-final after proving his worth against Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong in quarter-final showdown at German Open GP Gold 2012 in Germany,
on Friday, March 2.
The sixth seed Jorgensen, who is number 13 in the world, played remarkable badminton against Wing Ki and won the match in straight games by taking just 36 minutes in the court.
The World Number 21 Wing Ki, who made the biggest upset of the tournament by beating the second seed Chen Jin of china in the previous match, could not continue his winning streak and bowed to Jorgensen without taking any set.
The higher ranked Danish started the opening game with a wonderful confidence as he played aggressive strokes and remained successful in taking an early lead of 5-1.
However, he could not maintain it as his lower ranked rival became quicker and managed to level the score at 5-5.
Both shuttlers continued their positive and planned game and progressed without setting up a comfortable lead. Until the break, no one managed a clear lead on the score board.
After the break, the match progressed in the similar thrilling fashion and both shuttlers engaged the crowd by displaying their superb skills.
They reached at 17-17 when Jorgensen showed that he has what it takes to handle the crucial situations.
He became quicker at net and dominated the pace which helped him to score four consecutive points in a row and he won the set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Wing Ki failed to live up to expectations because he could not dominate the pace of rallies and remained struggling.
On the other hand, Jorgensen was in commanding position as he dictated the pace and remained successful in setting up a wonderful lead in the first half.
After the break, Jorgensen remained on track and did not let Wing Ki to fight back in the game. He ended the second set with a one-sided score of 21-11. The overall score of this straight-set contest was 21-17 and 21-11.
In the semi-final showdown, Jorgensen will play against Simon Santoso of Indonesia who defeated Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in a thrilling quarter-final battle.
