Jan O Jorgensen rules in Men’s Singles event of 2012 Copenhagen Masters
Denmark’s spirited campaigner Jan O Jorgensen played impeccable badminton and proved his worth in the Men’s Singles event of Yonex Copenhagen Masters which concluded on December 28, 2012.
World Number 11 Danish shuttler unseated talented players like Boonsak Ponsana and Hu Yun to claim the crown in this home event.
He opened his campaign against the Thai contender and their meeting lasted for just 26 minutes. They challenged each other in all areas of game but Jorgensen displayed superior finishing skills and locked the honour with 21-9 and 21-11 margin.
In first set of the match, the native shuttler relished full benefits of home ground and kept his rival under control.
He tipped the scale in his favour immediately in the beginning and maintained that dominance until last shot was played.
Jorgensen prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies and established an unassailable lead. He made best out of this initial advantage and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11.
After the mid-game break, Boonsak Ponsana showed some spark in couple of rallies but his supremacy was short lived as his competitor turned the tables with a staggering knock.
The Thai contestant could not employ an effective counterattack strategy and allowed Jorgensen to proceed on points table.
The Danish campaigner capitalised this opportunity and swept the table with a significant difference in 21-9 total.
Next game was also dominated by the local shuttler as he did not give his challenger even a single chance to come back and sealed a straight-set victory.
Jorgensen strengthened his grip by gathering few valuable points in a row and then magnified the impact by registering an indomitable total of 11.
Latter part of the game saw him in prime touch as he launched an intensive attack and sent Boonsak packing with an impressive result of 21-11.
With this win, the Danish player setup title match with Hu Yun of Hong Kong and served notice of his potential also in this crucial encounter.
This time Jorgensen played positive badminton and earned the right to be on top victory stand with 2-0 margin.
He established a strong grip over game straight away in the first set and ruled the court throughout this showdown.
In first set, he had a sluggish start but then few power packed rallies kick-started his expedition. He did not lose this momentum and piled up an overwhelming score of 21-12.
The following game proved just a formality as the opposing shuttler hardly put any resistance and surrendered tamely.
World Number ten Hu Yun could not employ his brilliance and put a below par performance. He lost control immediately in the beginning and kept on making fatal mistakes until game point situation.
On the other hand, Jorgensen played flawless badminton and raised the trophy after placing a winning margin of 21-11.
