Jan O Jorgensen steals the limelight at Malaysia Open Super Series – badminton news
Denmark’s emerging player, Jan O Jorgensen, steals the limelight as he has made the biggest upset by beating the ruling Olympic and World Champion, Lin Dan of China, in Men’s Singles second round of Malaysia Open Super Series 2012 at Putra Stadium, in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, January 12.
Jorgensen, who is currently World Number 16, has registered his first win over Lin, who is undeniably one of the best shuttlers in the entire history of badminton. The Danish defeated the Chinese in a well-fought three-set contest that ended in 58 minutes.
The huge crowd at Putra Stadium could not have asked for better performance from Jorgensen who stunned the higher ranked Chinese shuttler with his remarkable speed and perfection.
The Danish played with precision and emerged as the winner of the fight in an impressive fashion.
The World Number Two Lin played his normal game in first set and won it easily. However, his challenger put up a stunning show in second game and levelled the match by winning it. In the decider, Jorgensen was everywhere in the court and ended the battle
with a superb score.
Badminton fans at Putra Stadium were stunned with the aggression and precision of Jorgensen, who was playing the best badminton of his professional career. He finished the three-set contest with a 14-21, 21-15 and 21-15 margin on the score board.
With this victory, Jorgensen also took revenge of his loss from the hands of Lin in the last week’s Korea Open Premier Super Series.
After this battle, Jorgensen expressed that he was not expecting such a favourable result.
He said, “Lin Dan is the best player ever and to beat him is amazing. I am quite shocked and emotional right now – especially after what I have gone through last year.”
He further added, “For now, I can look forward to going to the Olympic Games in London. I was not even in the top 16 before Christmas. I reached the quarter-finals in Korea Open last week and now comes this good performances in the Malaysia Open.”
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Jorgensen is set to face another Chinese shuttler, Chen Jin, who has been seeded at number five in Men’s Singles draw of Malaysia Open.
