Jan O Jorgensen surprises Peter Hoeg Gade to bag Men’s Singles title at Copenhagen Masters
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen has ended the current year in an emphatic fashion as he has bagged the Men’s Singles title at the 2011 Copenhagen Masters. He surprised the higher ranked team-mate Peter Hoeg Gade by beating him in the final match of the event on
Thursday, December 29, in Denmark.
The World Number 16 Jorgensen proved his worth against his experienced opponent, Gade, who is currently positioned at number four in the Men’s Singles world rankings. The lower ranked Jorgensen remained lucky in winning the 75-minute match in three games
with a tight margin.
It was an epic battle where both shuttlers entertained the home crowd with their superb skills. Peter Gade took the first set without facing any considerable resistance. However, the second game was thrilling and Jorgensen managed to win it with a narrow
difference.
The final set was breath-taking as both shuttlers remained close until the ending points where Jorgensen remained lucky in taking the winning point and ended the game with a close margin.
Peter Gade, who is expert in judging his opponent’s loop poles and manipulates them in an impressive way. He showed his elite skills in opening set of the match as he played with precision. His deceptive strokes put his younger compatriot under pressure
in the whole game.
Jorgensen failed to get rid of the aggressive play of his higher ranked country-mate. He also committed many unforced errors and eventually lost the opening game without putting up resistance by a 14-21 score on the board.
In the following set, both players entertained the crowd with their superb skills. Jorgensen was playing elevated game this time as he matched the speed and accuracy of his challenger. The score progressed closely until the one-minute break in the second
set.
After the break, the score again remained equal and reached at the ending phase of the set. Jorgensen played remarkable badminton at this crucial stage and won the set with a dramatic score of 25-23.
In the deciding game, the higher ranked Peter Gade tried to set an early lead but failed as his younger team-mate remained close in the opening half. Jorgensen dominated the game until the ending points where Peter Gade played with precision and levelled
the score by reaching at 19-19.
Jorgensen became aggressive at this ending stage of the game and won it with a tight score of 22-20. The overall result of this mouth-watering final showdown was 14-21, 25-23 and 22-20.
