Jan O. Jorgensen topples Hans Kristian Vittinghus in Men’s Singles final of Denmark International
Denmark’s Men’s Singles shuttler, Jan O. Jorgensen has toppled compatriot Hans Kristian Vittinghus, in the final match of the 2011 Denmark International on May 9.
The top seed Jorgensen took only 33 minutes to beat the second seed, Vittinghus, who defeated the fourth seed, Eric Pang of Netherlands in the semi-final of the championship.
Jorgensen started the opening set in a tremendous way as he dominated the rallies and his speed at the net was incredible. Vittinghus struggled hard to pick the bird as early as possible but the perfect play of his opponent kept him moving around all corners
of the court. He worked hard to pick the returns, but was outclassed by Jorgensen.
In the opening set of the match, Jorgensen took only a few minutes to create a wonderful gap of 9-5. Vittinghus played a better game and reduced the gap by reaching 8-11. The second seed was struggling hard to return the perfectly executed smashes of Jorgensen,
who was playing a brilliant smooth game without making any unforced errors.
Both shuttlers in the final were the best players in this home tournament. The second seed, Vittinghus tried hard to match the speed of the opponent but made many errors that helped the top seed in reaching 17-13. Jorgensen continued his terrific run in
the concluding phase of the opening set and won it in just 18 minutes with a 21-15 margin.
In the second set, the top seed remained miles ahead of Vittinghus who was playing a confusing game. His shot selection was not good as he was playing in the strong areas of his opponent. Jorgensen made a progressive run and reached 11-6 at the interval.
After taking rest for 60 seconds, Vittinghus changed his tactics to find momentum, but failed as Jorgensen left no room for him to strike. The Number one seed increased his speed to put more pressure on the second seed and finished the set by a stunning
21-12 margin, in just 15 minutes. The final score of this 33-minute two-set match was, 21-15 and 21-12.
