The Belgian stopper does not expect the club to agree terms with Tottenham Hotspur over his move, and is now aiming to win the third successive league with the Amsterdammers.
Ajax Amsterdam centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has long been linked with a move to join Tottenham Hotspur before the start of the 2012/13 campaign. However, it seems unlikely that the Belgian stopper’s move to White Hart Lane will
materialise this summer.
The Amsterdammers management is reportedly asking 15 million Euros for the 25-year-old defender while the Spurs have shown reluctance to pay anything more than 12 million Euros.
Reports indicate that De Joden might have offloaded their prized asset after the Spurs' latest offer, but a release clause in the defender's contract entitling him to 15 percent of the transfer fee is stopping the Amsterdammers
to sell the defender.
The highly-rated central defender, who has been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since making his debut in the 2006/07 season, has now made it clear that he does not expect the club to agree terms with the English Premier League
outfit.
In addition, the stopper has confessed that he will remain at Amsterdam Arena for another season, though; he has expressed his disappointment over the deal failing to materialise.
“This is a shame. I thought that it would be sorted out much sooner. As it looks now, I'll be at Ajax on July 2. I'm hoping for a solution, but I'm not expecting a solution. I have one advantage: Ajax have got a good coach who
knows me. I play in a good, stable squad. Let's become champions with Ajax for the third time in a row”, Vertonghen was quoted as saying to Algemeen Dagblad.
The Belgian stopper went on to hit out at the leaks regarding his transfer details.
“I'm shocked. The percentage is correct. It's unbelievable. I know that at Ajax a lot of things are leaking. When you hear it about other football players, you don't feel it. It's different when it's about yourself”, Vertonghen
concluded.
The central defender has a contract that keeps him at Amsterdam Arena until the summer of 2013.
