The newly acquired Tottenham defender has expressed his delight at winning the Dutch Player of the Year award, and has thanked his family, his girlfriend and Ajax Amsterdam boss Frank de Boer.
Tottenham Hotspur defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has been awarded ‘Eredivisie Golden Boot’ award following his phenomenal performances while donning the jersey of Ajax Amsterdam throughout the 2011/12 campaign.
The trophy is awarded to the best player in the Dutch top tier since 1984. Ruud Gullit was the first player to be presented with this award for his impressive performances while playing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam in the 1983/84 season.
The incentive for this trophy is set up by Netherlands’ biggest newspaper, De Telegraaf, along with television station, Eredivisie Live.
After winning the award, Vertonghen expressed his delight, while insisting that he wants to receive the award from his mother.
“I often hear that you must receive a prize like this from someone out of the sports world. But I never had an idol so I will receive it from my mother. She's always been there for me, in my career and in a personal way. My mother
gives me this award on behalf of my family; my brother and my father. I want to thank my family, my girlfriend, Frank de Boer, the people at Ajax and the parents of my girlfriend”, the Belgian stopper was quoted as saying to the media.
The Amsterdammers head coach, Frank de Boer, congratulated the talented central defender through his official Twitter account.

Vertonghen, who represented the Amsterdam giants in over 150 league games since making his professional debut in the 2006/07 season, was the clear winner for the ‘Player of the Year’ award.
Feyenoord’s Jordy Clasie won the Silver Boot, while the Amsterdammers wonder-kid, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Eriksen-c9074, was presented with the Bronze Boot.
