http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, the Ajax centre half, has admitted his desire for a move to English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The 25-year-old confirmed that the two sides were in talks regarding a possible move but that Ajax were demanding a lot of money, even though his contract was to expire in another season. Vertoghen revealed he was hoping Ajax could reach an agreement with
the Premier League side.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international admitted he felt he owed a lot to his club, who had supported him since he had been promoted to the senior side in 2006. He revealed goodbye to the side he had been with his entire career so far would be difficult.
Vertonghen said in an interview:
“I owe a lot to Ajax but I have always given my heart and soul. My appreciation for the club and fans is great and it would be terrible if my farewell was marred by Ajax sticking to a great price.
Of course I want Ajax to gain financially but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay - perhaps with a little extra - is very reasonable.''
However, Vertonghen was confident a move to the English Premier League side would be good for him career wise. He urged his club to consider any possible bids, since playing for Tottenham Hotspur was something he wanted to do in the near future.
He continued:
“Tottenham is a fantastic football club.
Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs will be very close in nearing that already. They buy young, eager and offensive-minded players.”
Tottenham Hotspur have done really well over the past few seasons, working hard to establish themselves as a top five side in the English Premier League. Last season they managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and this season they participated
in the Europa League.
While they did not manage to win the second tier European competition, they are in to secure a top three finish so European participation is confirmed. If the Spurs manage to secure Champions League football next season then they can expect to bring in a
lot of talented players in the summer transfer window.
