The home side continued to assert their authority in the second-half and took the lead when Demouge scored his second of the evening near the hour mark. Alexander Gerndt’s strike secured the impressive looking 4-2 win seven minutes from time.
Wouters was pleased with the result and insisted that his side needed to make amends for Thursday’s defeat.
“After staging a poor show on Thursday, everyone wanted to win this game. We started the match with an aggressive intent and put a lot of pressure on VVV. However, we conceded two silly goals. It was disappointing”, the Dutch mentor was quoted as saying
to the media.
The 51-year-old tactician went on to praise his side’s efforts, singling out Demouge for further praise, and insisted that the team displayed a lot of character in the fixture.
“Ultimately, I am happy with the 4-2 win. But I am extremely pleased with the way my team has shown a lot of character in this match. Demouge came back with a turban, and that shows the passion of the team. Under immense pressure, with 0-2 behind, we managed
to claim the win”, Wouter concluded.
