Jan Zaveck to make a return and regain the world title – Boxing news
Jan Zaveck, former IBF welterweight champion, is planning to make a return to regain the world title. The news was revealed by the Slovenian pugilist earlier this week.
Zaveck is currently training in his hometown of Ptuj for his upcoming fight. When asked about his plans, Zaveck remarked, “Now Berto can’t face Ortiz, Mayweather probably won’t fight Pacquiao – in this wide open situation in my weight class I can and will
have a say after my unfortunate injury-caused defeat against Berto. I want another world championship belt!”
Dirk Dzemski, Zaveck’s trainer, have been travelling around in order to make preparations for the fighter. He recently travelled to the Extra-Zaveck gym in the fighter’s hometown in order to keep a check on his progress.
On this, the former champion stated, “I hope that I’ll be standing in the ring in the next six to eight weeks and can start tackling my mission to be world champion again.”
Zaveck further said that he feels he is all good to fight and in the upcoming weeks he will train himself well enough to face the toughest competitors. He added that he will be soon going to Magdeburg, his second home, in order to talk to people about his
possibilities of regaining the title. Lastly, in a very excited tone, Zaveck said that he is back and he is better than ever.
Zaveck currently holds 31 wins, 2 losses, and one No Contest decision in his portfolio. He has knocked down his opponents 18 times, thus has 18 knockouts in his bag. Zaveck won his IBF welterweight title on December 11, against Isaac Hlatshwayo and lost
it to Andre Berto in 2011 on September 3.
After the fight with Berto, Zaveck was seen staggering his way out, which gave many the idea that he was not fit enough to fight. Since then, Zaveck has not stepped in the ring again and has been planning to take on Berto whenever he gets the chance.
As of now, it seems like Zaveck’s chance for the title shot is here and it’s about time for him to go and make his mark. If he thinks he can do it then he should step in the ring and claim back his title.
