Jana Cepelova eases past Natela Dzalamidze into final eight – OrtoLaakarit Open 2011
Sixth seeded Slovak Jana Cepelova outclassed the Russian qualifier Natela Dzalamidze in straight sets at the OrtoLaakarit Open 2011, an ITF event taking place on the hard courts in Helsinki, Finland. She registered a 6-4, 7-5 victory
over the Russian to secure a last eight spot on Thursday.
Ranked 220th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Cepelova required just seventy-six minutes dumping the Russian, ranked 403 spots below her, on their first meeting. After earning this success she confidently booked
a quarter-final spot and inched towards her maiden year-to-date title.
18-year-old Slovak made a terrible entry on the Finn hard courts as she lost her blood first. Despite recovering in the very next game and exchanging another break in the fifth and the sixth game, Cepelova broke the Russian’s serve
for the third time in the last game to clinch the opener with a 6-4 score line.
She failed to fend off both breakpoints came across and capitalised on three out of seven breakpoint chances to her advantage. In addition to this, the Slovak manipulated a higher first serve share of 71 percent as compared to
Dzalamidze’s 62 percent and registered an acceptable 55 percent win on it.
The beaming Slovak repeated her mistakes in the final set and lost her serve in the opening game. Regardless of recovering in the sixth game, she gifted away her serve again in the following game. Cepelova however pocketed last
four games in a row and sealed the set by winning seven games to five.
She again clobbered a better first serve share of 68 percent as compared to the Russian’s 59 percent and earned a plausible 52 percent win on it. The Slovak defended one out of three breakpoints faced and capitalised on three out
of five breakpoint opportunities to her advantage.
Next up for the seeded player is another Russian qualifier, Alexandra Artamonova who upset fourth seeded Israeli Julia Glushko with a breadstick to reach this spot.
19-year-old Artamonova brushed off six out of seven breakpoints came across and cashed in five out of eleven breakpoint chances to her advantage. She committed zero double faults and earned an impressive 60 percent win on her equal
first serve share of 58 percent. Furthermore, the Russian jolted an amazing 55 percent on returns and took full advantage on the several errors Glushko spilled.
Overall, the world number 440 Artamonova displayed exceptional skills and abilities, easing through the seed with a 6-3, 6-1 score line in sixty-six minutes on their first meeting.
