Janardana Burns conquers Men’s 400m freestyle heats – Speedo Junior National Championships
Janardana Burns of Mission Viejo Nadadores conquered the preliminary rounds Men’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
The 17-year-old Burns stayed in a considerable lead over his rivals throughout the mediocre distance freestyle event as he cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for fastest qualification spot of the event.
With his impeccable pace, he remained more than a body length ahead and tapped the finishing blockade for first position with a timing of 3 minutes and 58.02 seconds.
Burns was followed by Clifford Goertemiller of Dayton Raiders, who stayed 1.15 seconds slower and finished second in the event by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 59.17 seconds.
Goertemiller was trailed by his team-member, Brock Turner, who remained only 0.03 seconds slower from him and transpired on the finishing end as third fastest qualifying swimmer with a timing of 3 minutes and 59.20 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by James Yoder of Stingrays-GA, who stayed 0.77 seconds apart and ended his race with a timing of 3 minutes and 59.97 seconds.
Yoder was chased by Samuel Smiddy of AK Sharks-FG, who remained 0.11 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 00.08 seconds for fifth position.
Smiddy enjoyed an advantage of Cameron Stitt of Tualatin Hills Swim Club, who was 0.47 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall as sixth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 00.55 seconds.
Stitt remained 0.46 seconds ahead of Lance Rutkin of Swim Fort Lauderdale, who proved his eligibility for seventh fastest qualifying position by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 01.01 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Martin Wallace of North Jeffco Swim Team, who remained 0.09 seconds slower and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 01.10 seconds.
In addition, Burns was overjoyed with his fastest qualifying position in the 400m discipline and stated that he would struggle hard to achieve first position in the playoff.
