Jander Vi Lazaroni secures Men’s 50m backstroke gold: Day seven – FINA World Masters Championships
Jander Vi Mello Lazaroni of Brazil secured gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke in the age group of 25-29 on concluding day of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy on Saturday, June 16.
Lazaroni faced tough competition from his closest competitor, Chris King of South Africa throughout the event but he managed to overwhelm his competitors on the finishing end for gold medal.
With his astonishing pace and commendable start, he gained a marginal lead over his challengers from the start and occupied gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 26.81 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained only 0.09 seconds faster from his following swimmer, King, who reached the finishing end for second position by producing a time of 26.90 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Ken Hamada Sorgi of Brazil, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 26.95 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Michele Ratti of Italy, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from overwhelming his foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with the timing of 27.15 seconds.
Similarly, Ratti was followed by Bernard Castera Moragues of Spain, who remained 0.07 seconds behind and proved his eligibility for fifth position of the event by clocking a time of 27.22 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Entoni Cantello of Italy, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 27.53 seconds.
Cantello was trailed by Rodri Nascimento Trivino of Brazil, who obtained seventh position of the backstroke discipline by clocking a time of 27.55 seconds.
He was chased by Andrea Cavalletti of Italy, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and posted a time of 27.78 seconds for eighth position. Ninth best spot of the event was secured by Alexey Gulakov of Russia, who completed his race with the timing of 28.18 seconds.
In addition, Lazaroni was delighted with his accomplishment on last day of the championship while the session ended after the conclusion of event.
