Jang Young Soo topples Goh Soon Huat in Men’s Singles opening round – Korea Open Update
Men’s Singles expert Jang Young Soo relished full benefits of the home ground and thrashed Goh Soon Huat in the opening round of Korea Grand Prix Gold on Tuesday, December 4, 2012.
He took just 30 minutes to wrap this showdown in two games with a favourable result of 21-12 and 21-15.
This tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun where a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttler.
Young Soo did not disappoint his supporters and gave them a solid reason to celebrate by registering a 2-0 win.
The opening game set the overall mood of the match as both contenders put all in their possession to pocket this crucial match point.
In the first half of the set, Soon Huat clinched a few consecutive points and tipped the scale in his favour.
The Malaysian campaigner ruled the court in next couple of rallies and it was felt that he will cruise to victory without any trouble.
However, Young Soo showed a transformed character and put his rival’s expedition to halt. He put in a tremendous performance as he had a decent score at the end of the first half of the set.
Later part of the game saw his real panache as the Korean shuttler was everywhere on court and controlled the bird masterly.
At first, he mounted pressure by widening the gap in the third quarter of the set and then magnified the impact by putting an indomitable margin of 21-12.
This first set win boosted his confidence and he played with even more conviction in the following game.
Young Soo made his intentions clear by piling up a mountainous total in the beginning and then strengthened his grip with an overwhelming figure at half time.
After the one-minute interval, Young Soo lost focus for a short span of time and allowed the Malaysian player to make swift progress on the points table.
However, he stormed back with a staggering knock and ended his bad patch. He levelled the score in the third quarter of the set and then locked the honour with 21-15 total.
Now his next challenger will be a compatriot shuttler Lee Dong Keun in the second round of this GP Gold event.
