Janine Lais sends Urszula Nowak packing in qualification round of 2012 Polish Open
Women’s Singles campaigner Janine Lais of Austria displayed unbeatable craft on the court and outshined Urszula Nowak during the qualification round of the Polish Open on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
This showdown kept both shuttlers head-to-head for 23 minutes before ending with decisive margin of 23-21 and 21-15.
Though, the local badminton arena was filled to the brim as a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttler but still Janine played with great conviction and silenced them.
She set the ball rolling straight away in the beginning of the first set when she employed unusual tactics and confounded her rival.
At first she pushed Urszula on the back-foot with a series of power packed smashes and then earned valuable points with some impressive net play.
The Austrian campaigner did not show any sign of confusion and kept moving forward at a steady pace. She managed to end the first half with a slight edge in the 11-10 total.
After one-minute break, Janine lost focus for a short period of time and the opposing shuttler relished full benefits of her blunder.
Urszula elevated her chances by prevailing in a few nonstop rallies but she could not go with the same flow in the final stage of the game.
Though, she added five points in her total after 15-18 but could not withstand a strong backlash of her challenger who caught her at 20-20 score position.
Both female shuttlers made every effort to oust their opponent and this cliff hanging game ended when Janine tipped the scale in her favour with a 23-21 margin.
The second set of the match, which proved a decider later, turned into a dead contest after mid-game break as the native shuttler hardly put up any resistance in the second half and surrendered in a disgraceful manner.
Urszula stood toe-to-toe in the preliminary stage as she challenged her competitor’s supremacy in all areas of the game and did not allow her to make a notable difference.
They remained equal until 10-10 but then Janine switched on her best and confined the local shuttler to the rear court.
The Austrian player showed consistency in her performance and locked the honour with a striking knock of 21-15.
Now she is going to meet Rebeka Alekseviciute and win will pave her way to the main draw of this International Series.
