Janko Tipsarevic aiming at a convincing title victory in Bangkok – Tennis News
Serbian number two, Janko Tipsarevic, is very optimistic for a comprehensive title victory at the Thailand Open in Bangkok this week. The 28-year-old is seeded at number one in the ATP World Tour 250 event and is highly bidding
for becoming the champion.
The world number nine always enjoys playing on the Asian hard courts and won the Malaysian Open title last year in Kuala Lumpur. This time round, he has chosen Bangkok to display his tennis skills and is hoping for a successful
campaign in the Thai capital.
"I won my first ATP tournament in Asia. It's one of my favourite swings, definitely this year because the season was so chaotic," said Tipsarevic, whose last title came in July. "We played so many tournaments including the Olympics.
Coming to Asia, in a big way, calms me down. People are so relaxed and easy-going in Asian countries. I just love to be here."
Having 48-19 winning ratio for the current year, the Serbian tennis ace has succeeded in pocketing merely one ATP title this season. He disposed of Juan Monaco of Argentina on the clay courts of Stuttgart to extend his title tally
to three. He hasn’t been in his true sublime form this season but has sustained his position among the elite Top-10 ATP Rankings throughout.
Tipsarevic is also at number nine in the Race to London for the season-ending grand finale, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Only the top eight performers in the season are awarded berths at the coveted event and a title victory
in Bangkok can be extremely helpful for Tipsarevic in the end.
With the absence of the defending champion, Andy Murray, from the Thailand Open, Tipsarevic have bright chances of claiming the title. Other contenders to pose a threat to his ambition include the second seed Richard Gasquet of
France, Canadian tennis prodigy Milos Raonic, fourth seed Gilles Simon, Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, sixth seed Viktor Troicki and the Aussie youngster Bernard Tomic. It won’t be an easy task for Tipsarevic to clinch the Bangkok title but certainly he
is the most deserving contender in the entire tournament field.
