Janko Tipsarevic aims for a winning return to Asia – Tennis News
World number nine, Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia, is hoping to do well at his favourite hunting ground, Asia, in the coming weeks. The Serbian star will be taking part in the Thailand Open, which begins in Bangkok from Monday.
Tipsarevic will be the top seed at this ATP World Tour 250 event, which will be held on the hard courts. The Serbian number two finds it easy to play in the Asian events in the last quarter of the year after a packed calendar in
the first three.
The 28-year-old captured the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur in the same week last year. It was first title of the Serbian player’s career and then he went on to add two more to his total.
Talking to the reporters before the start of the event, Tipsarevic said, “I won my first ATP tournament in Asia. It's one of my favourite swings, definitely this year because the season was so chaotic. We played so many tournaments
including the Olympics. Coming to Asia, in a big way, calms me down. People are so relaxed and easy-going in Asian countries. I just love to be here.”
The Serbian player has had the best season of his career so far this year. He attained his best ranking of number eight in April. Before the start of this event in Bangkok, Tipsarevic has a win/loss record of 48-19.
The Belgrade, Serbia resident started the season by reaching the final at AirCel Chennai Open. Featuring at the first Grand Slam of the season, he was stunned by Richard Gasquet of France in the third round. Tipsarevic made a huge
upset at the Mutua Madrid Open by beating the then world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-finals.
The 5ft 11in tall captured his only title of the season at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, where he defeated Argentina’s Juan Monaco in the final. The right-hander ended as runners up at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open in Gstaad
and reached the last-eight stage at the final Grand Slam of the season, the US Open.
Tipsarevic has received a bye in the opener and will play either Hiroki Moriya of Japan or Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the second round.
