Janko Tipsarevic and Oliver Marach upset the Indo Pak Express at the Miami Masters
The Austrian Serbian pair of Oliver Marach and Janko Tipsarevic trashed the seventh seeded Indo Pak pair of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in straight sets on Wednesday. They warded off the late resistance from the Indo
Pak Express to advance to the semi-finals at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
Marach and Tipsarevic en-route to quarters dumped the Spanish Argentinean combination of Pablo Andujar and Carlos Berlocq in three sets in the first round. They then upset the top seeded Bryan Brothers in straight sets.
The 7th seeded pair on the other hand overpowered the German American pair of Philipp Kohlschreiber and Rajeev Ram in straight sets. The seeded pair then defeated the Slovakian Belgian pair of Michal Mertinak and d**k
Norman in a three set thriller to reach this spot.
Marach and Tipsarevic displayed tremendous skills in the match and downed the Indo Pak pair 6-4, 7-6(8). In the opening set, they committed zero double faults and had a higher first serve share of 72 per cent as compared to Indo
Pakistani pair’s 63 per cent. Furthermore, they earned an exceptional 89 per cent win on it. The Austrian Serbian combination saved the only breakpoint and converted the only breakpoint opportunity to their advantage to win the set with a 6-4 score line.
They perfected their co-ordination in the final set as they saved all four breakpoints spectacularly. They had a similar first serve share and hammered two aces but they couldn’t find any breakpoint taking the set into tiebreaker.
They eventually clinched the set with a 7-6(8) win by prevailing in the tiebreaker.
The booming Indo Pak Express, who recently reached the semi-final at Indian Wells, played poorly in the opening set. However they improved their co-ordination in the second set and found four breakpoint opportunities though they
failed to convert any to their advantage. Overall they smacked 12 aces but they failed to save the only breakpoint they conceded in the match.
The winning combination of Austrian and the Serbian will next face the 3rdseeded Indian pair consisting of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes. They can overpower another seed if they keep their momentum and play with the
same co-ordination.
The Indian pair reached the semis after rallying past the 6th seeded pair of French Michael Llodra and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic by 6-3, (4)6-7, 10-7 thriller match. They converted two out of five breakpoint opportunities
to their advantage to win the match.
